Dadurch wird das Konzept einer endgültigen Komposition aufgehoben; stattdessen werden unterschiedliche improvisatorische Weisen benutzt, die zu einem ikonoklastischen und vorläufigen Musikbild führen. Die Mitglieder versuchen ihre eigenen Hintergründe zu dekontextualisieren und zu relativieren, um ein gemeinsames Hörereignis zu schaffen. Free Jazz, Neue Musik, Improvisation und Tradition sowie die ständige Suche nach neuen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten durch den Klang sind einige der Elemente, die die Musiker miteinander verbinden.

GEORGES PAUL (saxophones, clarinet, double bass)

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Georges Paul started learning music while studying philosophy in Greece and Germany. He studied classical double bass with Iraklis Soumelidis at the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki and went further on studying wind instruments, in particular saxophones. He is concentrated in free improvised music and is interested in the relation between contemporary improvisation and philosophical aesthetics as well as in searching new methods and techniques for exploring sound. He is a co-founder (together with Pavel Borodin) of the In Situ Art Society and is currently preparing a solo LP as well as a series of 7” records with different collaborators.

KIKUCHI NAOKO (koto soloist and performer)

Naoko Kikuchi was born in Sendai, Japan and started learning koto as a kid with her grandmother and mother. Since 1989 she was learning koto with Tadao Sawai and Kazue Sawai. She has graduated from NHK (Japanese National Broadcasting Company) School as “Performer of Traditional Japanese Instruments” obtaining her master title. She is a member of the Kazue Sawai Koto Ensemble. Her repertoire ranges from koto music (both traditional and contemporary compositions) to classic chamber music, modern and contemporary improvisation etc. She has obtained several prizes and awards in competitions and has gained worldwide recognition as a soloist. In 2007, she has been awarded with the “Fellowship of Overseas Study Programme for Artists” of the Japanese government. She holds a chair as a koto teacher in Tokyo, Japan.
